The Value of Failiure

I came to the idea of Seedlings for the MIDSUMMER NIGHT's DREAM JAM [MMXXIV] and although I didn't manage to finish in time, the whole experience was very informative, educational and valuable. I have wanted to make games since I knew about them, but before now, asside from writing down some ideas, I didn't actually attempt to make one.

At this point, I'm a fairly experienced in the art department and I got a failrly good grasp on making sfx and music, but coding was a task I was dreading and wanted to commit most time to, as the coding knowledge I have is very outdated. So I decided to get some basic art out of the way, make some basic sfx and then focus on the daunting task of coding. I think I was on the right track with it, but life got in the way so I couldn't commit to the project as much as I wanted to.

So, what did I actually learn from this project?
For starters I learned how to make a GDD. Having the GDD be the first step after the game idea was a great directional tool for how I wanted to aproach the project and what things I should maybe focus on more. The second thing I learned was what tools to use to get the results that are closest to my idea how this whole thing should work. I learned which programms are best suitable for specific assets I'm going for and how to best utilise them. I learned how to better rely on some programms I'm using and what the most optimal path would be for me to see this project to completion.

All that said, even though I didn't make the deadline, I still plan on finishing Seedlings, but as I don't have the time pressure atm, I will take my time with it.
